Causes of Injury

There are three main reasons as to why an amputation may occur, they are;

  1. The limb has experienced serious trauma, such as a crush or blast wound
  2. The limb poses a life-threatening danger to the person’s health
  3. The limb has been affected by gangrene (loss of blood supply to the tissue)

The reasons why an amputation may be necessary can be separated into traumatic events and medical reasons.
